Share In The Mess
Directed by myself, during the first FOXHOUSE x R100 STUDIO Artist Residency in January 2024
Share in the Mess is a short film documenting a collection of internal dialogues between the shadow self and the caring friend we appear only to reserve for others. A truly shocking part of making this project was the speed at which I became dull to the striking and abusive words spoken, the longer I spent editing the footage.
I think this highlights just how quickly we can normalize and digest extremely negative thoughts and helps put importance on the need to call in these conversations and recognize them for what they are and also the damage they can do.
I urge all, myself included, to use the same amount of kindness and consideration you would use to treat the confidence and dreams of others on yourself.
The idea for the project and outcome I believe was born from the nurturing and gentle openness of the group. I am truly grateful to them for their trust.
